On 5-6 April 2019, in Manchester, UK, TNTS held a Theravada Studies PhD Colloquium together with the Samatha Trust and Ji Xuegen Research Funding for Buddhist Studies, King’s College London. Twelve current and prospective PhD students from nine universities in China, Norway, and the UK participated, alongside six supervisors from five universities in Myanmar, Norway, and the UK. The meetings included discussions of the research areas of each student together with sessions on writing tactics and time management, managing the student-supervisor relationship, and how examiners evaluate theses, among other topics. The colloquium was dedicated to the memory of Prof. Lance Cousins and held at the Samatha Trust in Manchester, where on the same weekend the Trust inaugurated its new library in his honour. The programme for the colloquium may be viewed here.
